Meet Your (Coffee) Maker: Part I "The Freckled Fox"

Welcome to our new series, "Meet Your (Coffee) Makers!" We have so many amazing customers (cafes, coops, retail shops) who sell our coffee, and each is unique and dedicated to Organic, Fair Trade, Direct coffee for different reasons. We're going to highlight someone every now and then, to learn their story and their motivation for choosing Dean's Beans.

For today's edition, we're heading over to Florence, Massachusetts, to The Freckled Fox! Kitty and Tom Johndrow are the owners of the new coffee house, in the space formerly occupied by Cup And Top Cafe.

"It’s our mission at the Freckled Fox Cafe to provide an inviting, family-friendly coffee house that is inclusive to all walks of life, offering fresh, nutritious, delicious creative fare while supporting local farms and other local food providers as is possible, served with a smile by our bright and cheerful staff. The main ingredient in all of our recipes is LOVE."

Here is more from our interview

with Kitty & Tom.

Tell us your motivation to use our coffee!

Our motivation has a lot to do with the freshness of the beans and the clean, smooth taste. My husband has never been a coffee drinker. Not until we opened the cafe recently did he actually drink a whole cup of coffee! Once he had a taste of your beans he was hooked. Secondly, we are very impressed with Dean’s world activism, the importance of ecological responsibility, promotion of social change, the empowerment of youths, health promotion and gender equality. The fact that Dean’s Beans is working with communities to teach them to help themselves and promote themselves is life-sustaining and eternally positive.

Like Dean's Beans, promoting change and coming together as a community is also important to the Freckled Fox Cafe. That is why we have created a random act of kindness program to help feed our local hungry community. “Welcome To The Table For a Cup of Kindness” is a coupon-based program designed to allow our customers to do a random act of kindness for someone who comes into the cafe that is hungry and unable to purchase a meal on their own. It allows my husband and I the opportunity to also donate by matching each purchased coupon and it encourages the recipient of the cup of kindness coupon to look for ways that they can pay it forward in their lives.

What are some of your menu favorites? Any coffee pairings you would recommend?

My favorite breakfast food paring would have to be the "Lox of Love Bagel” toasted with cream cheese, sliced tomato, smoked salmon, red onions, and capers, served with a hot cup of Birdwatchers Blend.

My favorite lunch here has to be The “Leader of The Pack Panini” made with freshly sliced oven-roasted turkey breast, Vermont cheddar, 2 slices of bacon, baby spinach, and mustard served on sourdough harvest wheat artisan bread. This goes great with a cold brew made with your Marrakesh Express blend!

For dessert my go-to favorite is my Great Aunt Fern’s Carrot Cake made with shredded carrots, pineapple, raisins, chopped pecans, covered in cream cheese frosting and toasted coconut served with a cafe latte made with the Italian Espresso Roast, and local whole milk.
