Our coffee comes from Atsabe village in the mountainous Ermera district, southwest of the capital, Dili. The beans are spicy with slight acidity and chocolate tones. We pioneered Direct Fair Trade in East Timor, creating a relationship with Atsabe in 2009. This insures that our profit-sharing and development monies go directly to the farmers.

The independent coffee farmers of East Timor struggled for years against Indonesian rule, and won their freedom peacefully. During that time, we provided funds for democratic organizing by pro-independence groups. At the farmers request, we are now funding needed rural maternal health clinics in the coffee areas, staffed totally by Timorese, and supporting Atsabes schools and youth programs (computers and soccer!).

My favorite bean

Every time I drink this coffee, I am reminded why coffee is so delicious. It is velvet smooth, not overly acidic, and bold. It is my absolute favorite. The perfect cup.

Great for Cold Brew Too

Year round my wife and I love drinking cold brew made at home with Deans Beans. So normally we get a limited edition to drink hot sporadically. But Timor Astabe makes the best cold brew! That and of course Dean's Beans cold brew blend, we get them both equally.

Laughing Man coffee

I bought this coffee because I am in love with the little laughing man from this co-op. He is so cute and happy he makes me want to smile as I drink his coffee. And a delicious coffee it is! I don't know much about cupping notes, don't really taste chocolate or spicy, but it is full bodied with a heavenly aroma. It is very smooth and maybe somewhat sweet with a great aftertaste. Tell Mr Gomes I love his coffee! It makes me happy.

Delightful - it's our new favorite!

We received the Timor Atsabe roast in a sampler as a Christmas gift from a friend who knows how much we LOVE coffee. We are typically fans of a medium bodied Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, but this is our new favorite! We hand grind it and brew it in a French press or pour over, either way it is delightful!

Wonderful Medium Roast

I prefer dark roasts, but I thought I'd try this since it was from a region I enjoy. Wow! This is delightful and bold all at the same time.
